Theme: A Stronger Electronics Industry through Closer Industry-Academe-Government Linkages

Notably, the Philippines’ largest asset is our human capital. One of our assets as a preferred investment destination is the availability of a skilled workforce and our short learning curve. However, there is still a gap between the learnings of fresh graduates produced by the academe vis-à-vis the knowledge that is truly needed by the industry. Ii is not uncommon for a fresh graduate to take at least a year of additional training before he can fully contribute to the company.

Recognizing the need to bridge the gap, the industry calls for a multilateral collaboration with the government, the academe, and key stakeholders to advance the Philippines’ competitive edge in human capital, considering the continuing technological advancement in this digital era. We need to move beyond test and assembly, and reposition the Philippines up the global electronics value chain. There is a huge opportunity to improve the science & technology, and engineering curricula to support the industry’s need to progress and keep up with the global technology trends.
