On May 26, 2022, 9:00 AM, SEIPI will hold its Annual General Membership Meeting (AGMM), via Zoom Webinar. With the theme” Leveraging Digital Transformation for the Post-Pandemic Future.”

 DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena (Confirmed) and DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez  (Confirmed) will discuss “S&T Enablers for the Manufacturing Sector,” and “Policies and Programs for Digital Transformation in the Electronics Industry,” respectively.

PLDT Enterprise Vice President & Head – Enterprise Innovations & IoT Business Development, Mr. Melvin Jeffrey Chan (Confirmed), will present “Enabling Industry 4.0 in the Electronics Industry.”

Mr. Mark Edelstone (Confirmed), Morgan Stanley Chairman – Global Semiconductor Investment Banking, will deliver a presentation on Semiconductor Industry Renaissance.

Department of Science and Technology

Secretary Fortunato De La Peña has been serving as the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) since July 2016.He obtained his BS Chemical Engineering and MS in Industrial Engineering degrees from the University of the Philippines (UP).

He taught Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the UP College of Engineering for 43 years, from 1973 to 2016, while also serving on a secondment basis at the DOST occupying various positions between 1982 to 2011.
Secretary De La Peña served as the Vice President for Planning and Development at the University of the Philippines and as Undersecretary of the DOST prior to his retirement in 2014. He was appointed as DOST Secretary in 2016.

He was President of the following organizations: the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Association of Management and Industrial Engineers of the Philippines, the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology and the National Research Council of the Philippines. He also served as Chairman of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development in its 15th Session from 2011-2012.

Secretary De La Peña received awards from the Professional Regulation Commission, the Civil Service Commission, the Career Executive Service Board, the UP Alumni Engineers, the UP College of Engineering, the UP Alumni Association and the Ateneo de Manila University. In 2018, the University of the Philippines conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa).



Department of Trade and Industry

Secretary Ramon Lopez is the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). His extensive government experience with the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), DTI, and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in the early part of his career followed by over two decades of extensive positions in a private corporation, provided him with a solid background on macroeconomy; and industry and business development, that allowed him to adopt a more holistic perspective on trade and industry development. He is also a strong advocate for free entrepreneurship education for 12 years until he was called to serve the country again under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration as the DTI Secretary.

He has received several awards such as: the 2016 Nation Builders Award for Government Service for his role as prime mover in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) development; and the Philippine Innovation Man of the Year Award in 2017 for the promotion of social entrepreneurship through innovation. In 2018, he received from President Duterte the Order of Sikatuna, with a rank of Datu, one of the senior honors one can receive in the Philippines. Just recently, he was also named by People Asia as one of the 2020 People of the Year for his efforts in the gradual, safe, and calibrated reopening of the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mark Edelstone is a Managing Director and Chairman of Global Semiconductor Investment Banking for Morgan Stanley. During his career, he has worked as a portfolio manager, equity research analyst and investment banker, and he has specialized in the semiconductor and technology sectors since 1989. Since then, he has helped many clients to meet their strategic objectives and address their challenges.

During his investment banking career, Mr. Edelstone has advised more than three dozen companies on M&A transactions valued at more than $500 billion, including Xilinx’s $35Bn sale to AMD, Freescale’s $12Bn sale to NXP, Cypress Semiconductor’s $10Bn sale to Infineon, NVIDIA’s $40Bn acquisition of Arm and Analog Device’s $21Bn acquisition of Maxim. Beyond M&A, Mr. Edelstone has led 26 IPOs and has helped dozens of companies to raise more than $150 billion in the debt and equity capital markets. In 2020, Mr. Edelstone was ranked as the second leading M&A banker on the street by Business Insider.

As a research analyst, Mr. Edelstone was selected as an all-star analyst by Institutional Investor magazine for his research coverage of the semiconductor industry for 11 consecutive years. In addition, he was selected five times for the Wall Street Journal’s Stock Picking Award within “The Best on the Street Survey.” During 1999 and 2001, he was listed by First Call Corp. as the most-read securities analyst in the world. Prior to his career as a research analyst, Mr. Edelstone founded a money management company that specialized in asset allocation in 1986.

He received his undergraduate degree in Political Economics from the University of California and he holds an MBA in Finance, with a concentration in Investments, from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Mr. Edelstone is a co-founder of the dual-degree Management, Entrepreneurship & Technology Program at the University of California at Berkeley. In addition, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Market Technician.

Business Development, PLDT Enterprise

Mr. Melvin Jeffrey Chan is currently the Vice President and Head of Enterprise Innovations & IoT Business Development, under PLDT Enterprise, the segment that serves the small, medium, large and top tier enterprises of the Philippines. In his current role, he is responsible for innovation, strategy, practice build, offer development and business development across both next generation connectivity technology (i.e. IoT, 5G), and ICT capabilities (i.e. Data Center, Cloud, Edge, Cybersecurity, AI, Machine Learning, and other emerging technologies.)

Mr. Chan has over 17 years of professional experience including several leadership roles in IT and telecommunication industry across functional domains such as Sales, Technical Sales, Operations, Business Development, Product Management, Strategy and R&D, and geographically across Asia, North America, Africa and Europe. He is fluent in multiple key Asian languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English, and Filipino.

Mr. Chan obtained his Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering & Management Degree from the De La Salle University (graduated cum laude) and his Master of Electronics Engineering degree from The University of Tokyo through a full-time scholarship.
