NOVEMBER 2022 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS IMPORT PERFORMANCE

Electronics imports in November 2022 declined by 5.02% to US$ 2.66 billion, or 24.54% of the country’s US$ 10.78 billion total commodity imports for the month.

A. PH Electronics Imports: (Month-on-Month)

The country’s electronics imports decreased by 5.02% from US$ 2.78 billion in October 2022 to US$ 2.64 billion in November 2022. See Fig. 1.

Imports in Control and Instrumentation went down by 41.20%, from US$ 71.05 million to US$ 41.78 million. Automotive Electronics (38.35%) came next, followed by Consumer Electronics (24.46%), Communication/Radar (21.92%), Office Equipment (21.53%), Electronic Data Processing (12.69%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (2.71%).

Meanwhile, Telecommunication grew by 33.88%, followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (20.85%). See Table 2.


B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)

The electronics imports declined by 10.12%, from US$ 2.94 billion in November 2021 to US$ 2.64 billion in November 2022, as shown in Fig. 2.

Electronics imports in six (6) sectors contracted, led by Communication/Radar at 52.32%, from US$ 162.10 million to US$ 77.29 million. It was followed by Electronic Data Processing (48.24%), Consumer Electronics (41.44%), Control and Instrumentation (39.75%), Telecommunication (12.01%), and Automotive Electronics (11.36%), as shown in Table 2.

Three (3) sectors went up, namely Office Equipment (44.11%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (33.07%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (5.18%).

C. PH Electronics Imports (Year-to-Date)

Cumulative electronics imports increased by 4.55%, from US$ 29.05 billion last year to US$ 30.37 billion this year. These comprised 23.94% of the total Philippine commodity imports YTD. See Fig. 3.

Imports for five (5) out of nine (9) electronics sectors went up, led by Automotive Electronics (14.00%) from US$ 36.36 million to US$ 41.46 million. Following it was Semiconductor Components/Devices (11.51%), Control and Instrumentation (10.12%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (4.74%), and Office Equipment (3.29%).

On the other hand, Electronic Data Processing declined by 22.56%, followed by Telecommunication (3.48%), Consumer Electronics (3.11%), and Communication/Radar (0.60%). See table 3.


COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN (NOVEMBER 2022)

Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in November 2022 were China (19.73%), Taiwan (15.85%), Japan (13.17%), South Korea (10.98%), and Singapore (8.86%). These were likewise the countries of origin in the same order in October 2022.

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were the USA (8.61%), Hong Kong (5.72%), Malaysia (5.02%), Thailand (3.02%), and Germany (1.67%).

Fig. 4 shows the top imported electronics products in November 2022. Electrically circuit-programmed wafers and discs under semiconductors components/devices imported from the USA dropped by 40.88% from USD 100.72 billion in October 2022 to USD 59.55 billion in November 2022. See Table 4.
