JUNE 2021 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE

The Electronics industry remains as the country’s top exporter for June 2021 with US$ 4.03 billion, an increase of 9% from the previous month. This was 61.9% of the US$ 6.51 billion overall Philippine exports.

A. PH Electronics Exports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics exports increased by 9% from US$ 3.7 billion in May 2021 to US$ 4.03 billion in June 2021 (see Fig. 1).

Exports in eight sectors grew as shown in Table 2. Telecommunication had the largest increase at  129.36%, from US$ 23.21 million to US$ 53.23 million. This was followed by  Automotive Electronics (54.25%), Office Equipment (27.46%), Components/ Devices (Semiconductors) (8.56%), Electronic Data Processing (EDP) (6.24%), Communication/Radar (3.92%), Consumer Electronics (1.43%), and Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (0.55%). Conversely, Control and Instrumentation contracted by 16.6% from US$ 79.97 million in May to US$ 66.69 million in June.  Kindly refer to Table 2.


B. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-on-Year)

The Philippine Electronics exports rose by 14%, from US$ 3.52 billion in June 2020 to US$ 4.03 billion in June 2021, as shown in Fig. 2.

Seven out of nine sectors gained, led by Telecommunication with an increase of 186.49% from US$ 18.58 million last year to US$ 53.23 million this year, followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (40.9%), Consumer Electronics (39.89%), EDP (30.02%), Communication/Radar (23.31%), Control and Instrumentation (22.38%), and Components/Devices (Semiconductors) (7.31%).

Automotive electronics decreased by 28.4%, from US$ 12.64 million to US$ 9.05 million. Office equipment also went down by 15.79%. See Table 2.

C. PH Electronics Exports (Year-to-Date)

Cumulative electronics exports gained by 21%, from US$ 18.23 billion in 2020 to US$ 22.01 billion in 2021. This was 61.3% of the total Philippine exports (see Fig. 3).

Electronics exports in eight sectors increased from last year’s YTD figures, led by Medical/ Industrial Instrumentation at 131%, from US$ 53.98 million in June 2020 to US$ 124.64 million in June 2021. It was followed by Consumer Electronics (83.39%), EDP (51.03%), Telecommunication (33.79%), Control and Instrumentation (28.13%), Office Equipment (23.14%), Communication/ Radar (19.14%), and Components/ Devices (11.09%). On the other hand, exports in Automotive Electronics went downward by 46.7% from US$ 85.96 million to US$ 48.41 million. See Table 3.


COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (MAY 2021)

As shown in Table 1, the top five (5) countries of destination in June 2021 were Hong Kong (20.65%), USA (13.68%), China (13.19%), Japan (7.67%), and Singapore (7.16%).

Other destinations in the top ten are Germany (5.20%), Taiwan (4.03%), Thailand (3.41%), Korea (2.68%), and Netherlands (2.15%).

The top exported electronics products in June 2021 are seen in fig. 4. Semiconductor devices for USA increased by 37.13%; however, other electronics under EDP bound for Thailand decreased by (24.44%). See Table 4.
