JUNE 2019 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE

Amidst global semiconductor market decline, the electronics industry remains as the country’s top exporter for the month of June, with total receipts of US$ 3.81 billion out of US$ 6.00 billion, or 63.46% of total Philippine exports.

A. PH Electronic Exports: May 2019 versus June 2019 (Month-on-Month)

Electronic exports increased by 2.08%, from US$ 3. 73 billion in May, to US$ 3.81 billion in June 2019 (see Fig. 1).

Four out of nine sectors increased, led by Office Equipment at 18.02%, from US$ 70.90 million last month, to US$ 83.68 million this month. This was followed by Consumer Electronics (10.29%), Communication / Radar (7.33%), and Components / Semiconductor Devices (5.48%) (refer to Table 2).

Five out of nine sectors decreased, led by Automotive Electronics at 33.63%, from US$ 16.19 million, to US$ 10.74 million this month. This was followed by Control and Instrumentation (19.50%), Medical / Industrial Instrumentation (9.24%), Electronic Data Processing (8.37%), and Telecommunication (6.87%) (see Table 2).

B. PH Electronic Exports: June 2018 versus June 2019 (Year-on-Year)

Electronic exports increased by 4.37%, from US$ 3.65 billion in June 2018 to US$ 3.81 billion in June 2019, as shown in Fig. 2.

 

Four out of nine sectors increased, led by Office Equipment at 100.85%, from US$ 41.66 million in June 2018, to US$ 83.68 million in June 2019. Other sectors that increased were Communication / Radar (43.76%), Consumer Electronics (42.56%), and Components / Semiconductor Devices (4.06%) (see Table 2).

Five out of nine sectors decreased, led by Medical / Industrial Instrumentation at 44.27%, from US$ 7.41% million, to US$ 4.13% million this month. This was followed by Electronic Data Processing (7.90%), Control and Instrumentation (6.85%), Telecommunication (6.20%), and Automotive Electronics (5.53%) (see Table 2).

Cumulative electronic exports increased by 1.08%, from US$ 20.43 billion last year to US$ 20.65 billion this year. This comprises 60.54% of total Philippine exports, year-to-date (see Fig. 3).

Four sectors increased from last year’s YTD figures. Office Equipment increased at 40.55%, from US$ 264.94 million last year to US$ 372.37 million this year. Other sectors that increased were Communication / Radar (39.92%), Consumer Electronics (24.49%), and Automotive Electronics (9.35%) (see Table 3).

Five sectors decreased, namely: Medical / Industrial Instrumentation (27.71%), Control and Instrumentation (11.92%), Consumer Electronics (20.13%), Telecommunication (1.83%), Components / Semiconductor Devices (0.81%), and Electronic Data Processing (0.31%) (refer to Table 3).

COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (JUNE 2019)

As shown in Table 1, the top five (5) countries of destination in June 2019 were the Hong Kong (19.35%), USA (15.19%), People’s Republic of China (13.73%), Singapore (8.10%), and Japan (7.83%).

Other destinations in the top ten were Korea (5.77%),  Germany (5.62%), Taiwan (4.50%), Thailand (3.62%), and the Netherlands (3.17%).

The top exported electronics products for this month were Components / Semiconductor Devices, Electronic Data Processing, Communication / Radar, Consumer Electronics, and Office Equipment (refer to Fig. 4). Semiconductor Devices bound for the United States increased by 100% but Hard Disk Drives bound for China decreased by 12 % (see Table 4 (see Table 4).
