Electronics Imports reached US$ 2.44 billion in January 2023 or 22.22 % of the US$ 10.97 billion total commodity imports.

The country’s electronics imports rose by 0.77%, from US$ 2.42 billion in December 2022 to US$ 2.44 billion in January 2023 (see Fig. 1).
Imports in four (4) out of nine (9) sectors went up, as shown in Table 2. Consumer Electronics had the highest increase at 42.16%, from US$ 66.20 million in December 2022 to US$ 94.11 million in January 2023. This was followed by Communication/Radar (33.09%), Office Equipment (28.73%), and Telecommunication (13.12%).
Meanwhile, five sectors decreased, namely Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (11.58%), Control and Instrumentation (10.83%), Automotive Electronics (9.06%), Semiconductor Components/Devices (2.56%), and Electronic Data Processing (1.32%). (See Table 2).
B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)
The Philippine Electronics imports declined by 12.85%, from US$ 2.80 billion in January 2022 to US$ 2.44 billion in January 2023, as shown in Fig. 2.
Imports in six (6) sectors contracted, led by Electronic Data Processing at 32.42%, from US$ 341.62 million in January 2022 to US$ 230.87 million in January 2023. This was followed by Semiconductor Components/Devices (12.47%), Consumer Electronics (10.77%), Telecommunication (6.68%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (3.45%), and Control and Instrumentation (3.02%) as shown in Table 2.
Three (3) sectors increased, namely Office Equipment (152.89%), Automotive Electronics (5.51%), and Communication/Radar (4.89%).

COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN (JANUARY 2023)
Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in January 2023 were China (19.04%), Taiwan (13.43%), Japan (11.04%), Singapore (10.17%), and South Korea (10.00%).

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were the USA (9.22%), Hong Kong (8.24%), Malaysia (4.78%), Thailand (2.66%), and Vietnam (2.46%).

Fig. 4 shows the top imported electronics products in January 2023. Wafers and discs under semiconductors components/devices imported from the USA increased by 26.36%, while other Wafers and discs imported from Taiwan dropped by 24.63%. See Table 3.
