FEBRUARY 2022 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE

Electronics exports declined by 0.80% in February 2022 to US$ 3.74 billion, which was 60.75% of the US$ 6.16 billion total Philippine exports for the month.

 


 

A. PH Electronics Exports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics exports went down by 0.80%, from US$ 3.77 billion in January 2022 to US$ 3.74 billion in February 2022. See Fig. 1.

Exports in five (5) sectors declined as shown in Table 2. This was led by Office Equipment with a 29.84% decrease, from US$ 67.19 million to US$ 47.14 million, followed by Consumer Electronics (27.28%), Automotive Electronics (19.90%), Control and Instrumentation (1.79%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (1.01%). Please see Table 2.

Meanwhile, Communication/Radar rose from US$ 43.83 million to US$ 48.23 million (10.04%), followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (6.14%), Telecommunication (1.61%), and Electronic Data Processing (0.59%). Kindly refer to Table 2.


B. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-on-Year)

The Philippine Electronics exports went up by 14.65%, from US$ 3.26 billion in February 2021 to US$ 3.74 billion in February 2022, as shown in Fig. 2.

Exports in five (5) sectors increased, led by Telecommunication at 172.06%, from US$ 31.57 million in February 2021 to US$ 85.89 million in February 2022. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (43.01%), Semiconductors Components/Devices (20.41%), Control and Instrumentation (11.96%), and Office Equipment (0.09%).

Conversely, Consumer Electronics products contracted the most by 22.96%, from US$ 83.12 million to US$ 64.04 million. This was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (17.81%), Electronic Data Processing (5.30%), and Communication/Radar (0.80%).

C. PH Electronics Exports (Year-to-Date)

Year-to-date electronics exports gained by 10.30%, from US$ 6.81 billion in 2021 to US$ 7.51 billion in 2022. This was 61.56% of the total Philippine exports (See Fig. 3.).

Exports from five (5) electronics sectors increased from last year’s YTD figures, led by Telecommunication at 190.18%, from US$ 58.73 million last year to US$ 170.42 million this year. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (62.34%), Office Equipment (20.30%), Semiconductor Components/Devices (15.25%), and Control and Instrumentation (13.42%). See Table 3.

On the other hand, exports in Medical/Industrial Instrumentation went down by 20.67%, from US$ 46.39 million to US$ 36.80 million. This was followed by Communication/Radar (7.85%), Consumer Electronics (16.08%), Communication/Radar (9.96%), and Electronic Data Processing (7.15%).


COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION FEBRUARY 2022)

Table 1 shows the top five (5) export destinations in February 2022, namely, Hong Kong (18.79%), USA (13.61%), China (11.41%), Singapore (9.07%), and Japan (7.80%).

The other destinations in the top ten were Taiwan (4.86%), Germany (4.59%), Thailand (3.85%), Malaysia (2.59%), and Korea (2.58%).

The top exported electronics products in February 2022 are seen in Fig. 4. Semiconductor devices bound for Singapore increased by 1.48%. On the other hand, hard disk drives under EDP bound for the USA dropped by 8.57%. See Table 4.
