Electronics imports in December 2022 decreased by 8.30% to US$ 2.42 billion, or 23.61% of the country’s US$ 10.26 billion total commodity imports for the month.

The country’s electronics imports went down by 8.30% from US$ 2.64 billion in November 2022 to US$ 2.42 billion in December 2022. See Fig. 1.
Imports in Semiconductor Components/Devices contracted by 10.04%, from US$ 2.04 billion to US$ 1.84 billion, followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (9.45%), Consumer Electronics (8.94%), Telecommunication (4.91%), and Electronic Data Processing (4.76%).
Meanwhile, Automotive Electronics went up by 49.14%, followed by Control and Instrumentation (17.17%), Office Equipment (11.16%), and Communication/Radar (0.40%). See Table 2.
B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)
The electronics imports contracted by 10.75%, from US$ 2.72 billion in December 2021 to US$ 2.42 billion in December 2022, as shown in Fig. 2.
Electronics imports in six (6) sectors decreased, led by Electronic Data Processing at 40.25%, from US$ 386.66 million to US$ 231.01 million. It was followed by Consumer Electronics (33.48%), Control and Instrumentation (25.09%), Communication/Radar (15.01%), Telecommunication (7.37%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (3.80%), as shown in Table 2.
Three (3) sectors grew, namely Office Equipment (46.42%), Automotive Electronics (23.33%), and Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (20.06%).

Cumulative electronics imports gained 3.23%, from US$ 31.77 billion in 2021 to US$ 32.79 billion in 2022. These comprised 23.91% of the total Philippine commodity imports YTD (See Fig. 3.).
Imports for five (5) out of nine (9) electronics sectors increased, led by Automotive Electronics (14.71%) from US$ 39.49 million to US$ 45.30 million. Following it was Semiconductor Components/Devices (10.71%), Control and Instrumentation (7.18%), Office Equipment (6.20%), and Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (6.02%).
On the other hand, Electronic Data Processing went down by 24.07%, followed by Consumer Electronics (5.62%), Telecommunication (4.64%), and Communication/Radar (0.59%).
COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN (DECEMBER 2022)
Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in December 2022 were China (20.36%), Taiwan (15.18%), South Korea (12.05%), Japan (11.18%), and the USA (8.34%).

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were Singapore (7.84%), Hong Kong (6.27%), Malaysia (5.35%), Thailand (3.12%), and Germany (1.91%).

Fig. 4 shows the top imported electronics products in December 2022. Electrically circuit-programmed wafers and discs imported from the USA increased by 13.08%. Conversely, materials and accessories for semiconductor devices imported from South Korea dropped by 9.53%. See Table 4.
