APRIL 2022 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE

Electronics exports declined by 18.28% in April 2022 to USD 3.49 billion, which was 56.98% of the US$ 6.13 billion total Philippine exports for the month.

A. PH Electronics Exports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics exports went down from US$ 4.27 billion in March 2022 to US$ 3.49 billion in April 2022. See Fig. 1.

Exports in eight (8) sectors contracted as shown in Table 2. The biggest reduction was with Communication/Radar of 46.80%, from US$ 55.95 million to US$ 29.77 million, followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (33.76%), Consumer Electronics (30.32%), Automotive Electronics (21.36%), Semiconductor Components/Devices (17.93%), Electronic Data Processing (16.83%), Control and Instrumentation (14.84%), Telecommunication (14.39%).  Please see Table 2.

Meanwhile, Office Equipment went up by 4.34%, from US$ 55.96 million to US$ 58.38 million. Kindly refer to Table 2.


B. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-on-Year)

The Philippine Electronics exports decreased slightly by 0.2%, from US$ 3.50 billion in April 2021 to US$ 3.49 billion in April 2022, as shown in Fig. 2.

Exports in five (5) sectors declined, led by Consumer Electronics at 35.14%, from US$ 84.15 million in April 2021 to US$ 54.58 million in April 2022. This was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (25.19%), Communication/Radar (18.09%), Electronic Data Processing (10.84%), and Automotive Electronics (10.74%)

On the other hand, Telecommunication products increased the most by 260.80%%, from US$ 23.72 million to US$ 85.59 million. This was followed by Office Equipment (23.83%), Control and Instrumentation (6.45%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (2.02%)

C. PH Electronics Exports (Year-to-Date)

Year-to-date electronics exports climbed by 6.98%, from US$ 14.28 billion in 2021 to US$ 15.28 billion in 2022. This was 59.81% of the total Philippine exports (See Fig. 3.).

Exports from five (5) sectors rose from last year’s YTD figures, led by Telecommunication at 222.81%, from US$ 110.28 million last year to US$ 355.98 million this year. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (34.89%), Office Equipment (14.18%), Control and Instrumentation (12.66%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (10.28%), See Table 3.

On the other hand, exports in Consumer Electronics declined by 22.36%, from US$ 367.05 million to US$ 284.99 million. This was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (20.49%), Communication/Radar (8.48%), and Electronic Data Processing (6.54%).


COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION APRIL 2022

Table 1 shows the top five (5) export destinations in April 2022, namely, Hong Kong (18.59%), the USA (13.91%), China (11.35%), Singapore (10.09%), and Japan (7.17%). These were likewise the countries of destination in the same order in March 2022.

The other destinations in the top ten were Taiwan (5.24%), Germany (4.70%), Thailand (3.54%), the Netherlands (3.10%), and South Korea (2.58%).

The top exported electronics products in April 2022 are seen in Fig. 4. Semiconductor devices bound for the USA increased by 8.93%. Conversely, semiconductor devices bound for China decreased by 38.27%. See Table 4.
