B. PH Electronics Imports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics imports contracted by 5.9%,   from US$ 2.56 billion in March 2021 to US$ 2.41 billion in March 2021 (see Fig. 1).

Imports in all sectors declined as shown in Table 2. Control and Instrumentation had the largest decrease with 25.2%, from US$ 68.79 million in March 2021 to US$ 51.45 million in April 2021. This was followed by Medical and Instrumentation (23%), Communication/ Radar (17.1%), Telecommunication (16.2%), Consumer Electronics (16.1%), Office Equipment (12.4%), Automotive Electronics (6.1%), Components/Devices (Semiconductors) (3.5%) and Electronic Data Processing (EDP) (1.7%).  Please see Table 2.


B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)

The country’s electronics imports grew by 79.85%, from US$ 1.34 billion in April of 2020 to US$ 2.41 billion in April 2021, as shown in Fig. 2.

Electronics imports in all sectors increased, led by  Office Equipment at 244%, from US$ 4.47 million to US$ 15.38 million. This was followed by  Medical Instrumentation (243.7%),  Telecommunication (211%), EDP (201.4%), Consumer Electronics (166%), Automotive Electronics (165.4%), Control and Instrumentation (131.4%), Communication/Radar (57.3%) and Components/Devices (Semiconductors) (56.6%) as shown in Table 2.

Cumulative electronics imports increased by 22%, from US$ 7.88 billion last year to US$ 9.62 billion this year. These comprised 27.9% of the total Philippine commodity imports YTD (see Fig. 3).

All sectors in electronics imports grew, led by EDP (52%) from US$ 979.4 million to US$ 1.49 billion. This was followed by Control and Instrumentation (44.7%), Communication/Radar (31.3%), Consumer Electronics (27.2%), Telecommunication (23.9%), Medical and Instrumentation (22.1%),  Components/Devices (Semiconductors) (15.6%), Automotive Electronics (4.8%) and Office Equipment (4.5%). COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN (APRIL 2021)

Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in April 2021 were China (21.6%), Japan (13.12%), Taiwan (12.19%), Korea (12.15%), and Singapore (9.93%).

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were Hong Kong (7.87%), USA (7.84%), Thailand (3.37%), Malaysia (3.36%)  and Vietnam (1.85%).

The top imported electronics products in April 2021 are seen in fig. 4.  Other electronics under EDP imported from Hong Kong increased by 63%. However, the same products imported from Japan decreased by 21.6%. See Table 4.
