A new IMS Research study indicates that the automotive sensors market is set for a rapid recovery after being on a slide between 2007 and 2009. The report, titled "The World Market for Automotive Sensors," states that the sector could see 10 percent annual growth over the next eight years.

The World Fab Forecast released at the end of August indicates a 133 percent increase in equipment spending for Front End fabs this year and about 18 percent growth in 2011. Worldwide installed fab capacity (without Discretes) is expected to grow by 7 percent in 2010 and another 8 percent in 2011. Fab construction spending will increase by 125 percent in 2010 and an additional 22 percent in 2011.

Capitalizing on a gamut of hot-button issues ranging from global warming to aging populations, the market for high-value Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) is set for very rapid growth in a large number of highly diverse segments, according to the market research firm iSuppli Corp.

Revenue for high-value MEMS is projected to reach $1.6 billion in 2010, up 29.7 percent from $1.2 billion in 2009. Such revenue levels translate into equivalent MEMS shipments of 103.3 million units this year, compared to last year’s 86.8 million units. “The rapid growth of high-value MEMS is being driven by global trends that highlight the unique value proposition that the tiny devices bring to countless applications,” said Richard Dixon, senior analyst at iSuppli.

Worldwide DRAM revenue reached $10.7 billion in the second quarter of 2010, up 15.2 percent quarter-on-quarter, according to DRAMeXchange, the research division of Trendforce. The market research firm attributes the growth to the steady increase in DRAM prices and the slight increase in production.
