DECEMBER 2019 PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE

Electronics exports reached US$ 43.32 billion in 2019 accounting for 61.60% of the country’s total commodity exports of the year, or a 4.06% growth based on PSA’s adjusted number for 2018; the highest and the third straight year for the record electronics exports.

 

A. PH Electronics Exports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics exports grew by 2.04%, from US$ 3.59 billion in November, to US$ 3.66 billion in December 2019 (see Fig. 1).

Exports in four out of nine sectors increased from the previous month’s figures, as shown in Table 3. Automotive Electronics increased by 14.06%, from US$ 15.13 million, to US$ 17.26 million this month. This was followed by Components / Semiconductor Devices (5.58%), Control and Instrumentation (4.36%), and Office Equipment (3.01%). Please see Table 3.

Exports in five out of nine sectors decreased, led Consumer Electronics at 44.16%, from US$ 95.80 million, to US$ 53.49 million this month. This was followed by Telecommunication (16.80%), Medical / Industrial Instrumentation (4.33%), Communication / Radar (4.01%), and Electronic Data Processing (2.68%). Kindly refer to Table 3.

 

B. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-on-Year)

Electronics exports grew by 22.60%, from US$ 2.99 billion in December 2018, to US$ 3.66 billion in December 2019, as shown in Fig. 2.

Exports in eight out of nine sectors increased, led by Medical / Industrial Instrumentation at 98.16%, from US$ 4.30 million in December 2018, to US$ 8.53 million in December 2019. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (78.28%), Components / Semiconductor Devices (31.82%), Telecommunication (21.31%), Office Equipment (13.69%), Communication / Radar (10.11%), Electronic Data Processing (4.23%), and Consumer Electronics (3.94%). C. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-to- Date)

Cumulative electronics exports grew by 4.07%, from US$ 41.63 billion last year to US$ 43.32 billion this year. This comprises 61.60% of total Philippine exports (see Fig. 3).

Exports in six sectors increased from last year’s YTD figures. Office Equipment increased at 30.41%, from US$ 547.08 million last year, to US$ 713.43 million this year. Other sectors that increased were Communication / Radar (28.61%), Consumer Electronics (27.07%), Telecommunication (13.91%), Automotive Electronics (13.37%), and Components / Semiconductor Devices (4.18%). Three sectors decreased, namely: Control and Instrumentation (18.48%), Medical / Industrial Instrumentation (6.64%), and Electronic Data Processing (0.01%). Kindly refer to Table 4.

 

COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (DECEMBER 2019)

As shown in Table 1, the top five (5) countries of destination in December 2019 were Hong Kong (20.71%), the United States (14.27%), the People’s Republic of China (13.13%), Japan (7.85%), and Singapore (7.84%).

Other destinations in the top ten were Taiwan (4.25%), Germany (4.22%), South Korea (3.99%), Thailand (3.29%), and the Netherlands (2.50%).

The top exported electronic products in December 2019 are shown on Figure 4.

 

COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (2018 vs 2019)

 

As shown in Table 2, the top five (5) countries of destination in 2019 were Hong Kong (12.25%), the United States (14.30%), the People’s Republic of China (13.54%), Japan (7.41%), Singapore (7.36%).

Other destinations in the top ten were Germany (5.08%), South Korea (4.43%), Taiwan (4.10%), Thailand (3.43%), and the Netherlands (3.19%).
